The Long Point Basin Land Trust (LPBLT) has announced a major boost to local conservation with the addition of the DeCloet Family Forest Legacy, a 44.3-acre property donated by Paul and Ben DeCloet.
This generous gift connects to the existing 123.5-acre Paul DeCloet Forest, first donated in 2021, creating a larger protected area that supports rare trees like tulip trees and sassafras, as well as vital cold-water stream habitats.
The DeCloet family contributed $400,000 toward the project—nearly half its total cost.
“This land will be protected and enjoyed forever,” said Ben DeCloet.
LPBLT will now begin restoration efforts, including removing invasive plants and planting native species. The site adds to a critical creek corridor supporting biodiversity and climate resilience.
To celebrate the new forest, a family-friendly acorn planting event was held May 17. To view photos from the event, visit: https://longpointlandtrust.ca/profile-in-giving-decloet-family/
