Dan Johnson has officially crossed into Ontario on his cross-country cycling journey to support local hospice care—and the momentum continues to grow. Johnson, who has already raised over $150,000, is biking coast to coast to support the Norfolk Haldimand Community Hospice.
Summer in Northern Ontario is a black fly paradise. We asked Johnson if bugs have been an issue on the ride.
His Ontario route will take him through Manitoulin Island, across to Tobermory by ferry, then south through Port Elgin, Exeter, Port Stanley, and Port Dover—avoiding high-traffic areas like Toronto for safety and scenery.
Johnson is supported on the journey by his family, who are following in an RV. Near the Manitoba border, they spotted some wildlife, adding a bit of excitement to the trip.
His daughter was able to get a great video of the bear family.
“Word and support are spreading,” said Johnson. “Every day, more people reach out with ideas, donations, and offers to help.”
Johnson believes this is what will truly propel the story to the next level and reach every corner of Norfolk and Haldimand.
What began as a vision is now gaining real traction. Johnson says the community-driven nature of the project is exactly what he hoped for—people taking the story further than he ever could alone.
