Starting today (July 30), West Street in Simcoe will be closed from Queen Street to Brook Street for approximately 12 weeks. The closure marks the beginning of Phase 2 of the West Street Reconstruction Project.
The extensive infrastructure upgrade includes full replacement of sanitary and storm sewers, watermains, and service connections to property lines. Crews will also install new concrete curbs, gutters, granular road base, asphalt surface, and accessible sidewalks. Intersection upgrades are also planned.
Residents are advised that emergency access to Norfolk General Hospital will follow a detour route via Robinson Street, Talbot Street, Chapel Street, and Oak Street. A full detour map is below and construction details are available online at bit.ly/4kYIfNV.
Motorists should expect delays and plan alternate routes. The County thanks everyone for their patience as they work to improve local infrastructure and road safety in the heart of Simcoe.
