Yesterday (July 23), Haldimand County Council, the Haldimand-Norfolk Housing Corporation (HNHC), and community partners broke ground on a new affordable housing development on Ramsey Drive in Dunnville.
The project aims to reduce homelessness by delivering below-market rental housing for local families and individuals. Currently, 437 people are on the waitlist for rent-geared-to-income housing in Haldimand and Norfolk.
The building will feature a universal design with 20% of units barrier-free for people with disabilities. It will also include a provincially funded YWCA daycare on the main floor, a tenant amenity space, social stairwell, and staff program area to support community-based services.
Mayor Shelley Ann Bentley called the project “an important milestone” and praised the collaboration with government and community partners. HNHC CEO Matt Bowen added the project is a “bold step forward” for inclusive, community-based housing.
Construction will continue through fall 2025, with completion expected in early 2027.
