Haldimand County is getting a major boost from the Ontario government to support new home construction and community infrastructure. The province is awarding Haldimand \$991,984 through the second round of the Building Faster Fund, a program that rewards municipalities for meeting at least 80 per cent of their housing targets.
In 2024, Haldimand County started construction on 310 new homes—89 per cent of its target. The funding will help the County build more housing and infrastructure while reducing the financial burden on local taxpayers.
“We’re partnering with Mayor Bentley and mayors across our province to get more shovels in the ground and deliver the homes Ontario needs,” said Rob Flack, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing.
Mayor Shelley Ann Bentley said the investment will “directly support us in delivering housing and housing-enabling infrastructure that is desperately needed in our community” and will speed up local housing development.
The Building Faster Fund is a three-year, $1.2 billion program launched in 2023 to support housing growth. The province is also pushing ahead with the Protect Ontario by Building Faster and Smarter Act 2025 to further streamline approvals and reduce delays.
