Dan Johnson of Port Dover has officially traded mountain climbs for prairie skies as he pedals eastward through Alberta on his Live Like Luke Canadian Crossing. After leaving Calgary behind, Johnson was enroute to the small town of Bassano, about 130 kilometres east.
The terrain has flattened out considerably, a stark contrast from the narrow, winding roads of British Columbia.
Though the ride has become less physically extreme, Dan says the mental shift is setting in.
He added that now it’s at least 20 straight days of steady, flat riding. Not much variety.
Despite back soreness and unpredictable weather—including monsoon rain and cool mornings—Johnson remains upbeat. A well-timed massage in Calgary helped ease physical strain.
As he travels highways, safety is always on Dan’s mind and he credits his awareness and safety gear for staying alert on the road. He also has faith that things will continue well.
Dan continues to inspire as he raises funds for the Norfolk Haldimand Community Hospice. You can donate to the cause here: https://norfolkhaldimandhospice.ca/live-like-luke/
