Haldimand–Norfolk MPP Bobbi Ann Brady is calling on Ontario’s Education Minister to take stronger action over an unpaid travel bill involving a local Catholic school trustee.
In a letter dated July 4, 2025, Brady urged Minister Paul Calandra to instruct the Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board (BHNCDSB) to garnish Trustee Mark Watson’s honorarium. According to Brady, Watson still owes $12,370 for his portion of a controversial school trip to Italy.
Brady, who first raised concerns about the trip in the Ontario Legislature, acknowledged that current legislation prevents the Minister from removing an elected trustee. However, she stressed that Watson has had ample time to repay the amount and has not confirmed any repayment plans.
Brady thanked Calandra for his efforts so far but said taxpayers deserve action. She believes garnishing the honorarium is a fair way to recover the public funds.
The BHNCDSB has not commented publicly on the request or whether garnishment will be considered.
