At just seven years old, Roman Boyd is already making a name for himself as a passionate young farmer with a big dream—and even bigger determination. Nestled on his family’s multi-generational farm, Roman is the latest in a long line of Boyd farmers, and he’s proving that age is no barrier to ambition.
This pint-sized planter has taken the reins of his very own vegetable garden, tending to crops like carrots, tomatoes, spinach, leeks, and even corn. What started as a small project has grown into a full-blown commitment—one that sees Roman watering and weeding up to three times a day on weekends. His goal? To earn enough money at the farmer’s market to buy himself a dirt bike.
But Roman’s farming efforts are part of something even larger. Inspired by his older brother Connor—who’s raising cattle—and his sister Lauren—who dreams of owning a horse—Roman’s pursuit of a dirt bike is part of a family movement toward empowering each child to follow their rural passions.
The Boyd children are even the subject of an upcoming documentary by Daryl Granger, known for Netting the Waters. The film follows their journeys as young farmers navigating childhood, responsibility, and ambition on the family farm. The focus being on 7-year-old Roman being a 7th generation farmer.
Roman doesn’t sugarcoat the work it takes, saying it is hard and tiring. But he beams with pride at how much he’s grown—not just in height, but in heart.
