Ontario’s universities are about to receive funding to help develop more teachers.
Minister of colleges, universities, research excellence and security Nolan Quinn announced that the province is making an investment in Bachelor of Education programs that will help train an additional 2,600 teachers by 2027.
He made the announcement on Friday at Queen’s University in Kingston.
The province is looking to add more teachers especially in underserved and remote communities and Quinn believes this new funding will accomplish that.
The announcement comes as Ontario’s post-secondary institutions are dealing with program cuts dues to low student enrollment.
Part of it is the tighter limits placed on the enrollment of international students coming to Canada.
Quinn says they are working to make sure Ontario’s colleges and universities stay afloat.
