A sudden and powerful storm following today’s heat wave may have brought a tornado to Nixon Road, just west of Simcoe. Local resident Rick contacted our radio station this afternoon to report major damage to his property after what he suspects was a tornado struck.
More than six large trees broken or completely uprooted, lying scattered across his yard. His home was also damaged when a 52-year-old green locust tree, which he planted himself, fell partially onto the house. The tree caused serious harm to the roof and damaged his generator.
What makes the scene even more unusual is that the downed trees formed a clear line across the south side of his property. Nearby trees outside this line appear untouched, adding to the suspicion of a tornado.
Fortunately no one was harmed, and Environment Canada has not yet confirmed if a tornado touched down in the area.
