A 65‑year‑old Norfolk County resident is in custody following a barricaded person incident on Main Street in Courtland over the weekend.
According to the Norfolk OPP, officers responded to a call on Saturday at approximately 8 p.m.
Police, with support from the OPP West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) and the Canine Unit, secured the area and established a perimeter.
Main Street was closed for several hours while authorities worked to contain the situation and ensure public safety.
Although no threat to the public was identified, and no injuries were reported, the incident required a significant police presence.
As a result, the accused is facing a number of charges, including Uttering Threats — Cause Bodily Harm or Death, Pointing a Firearm, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, and Careless Use of a Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition.
The suspect remains in police custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe at a later date. Authorities have since lifted the road closure, and Main Street has been re‑opened to the public.
