The Canadian Cancer Society is raising concerns about a new federal bill that aims to eliminate interprovincial trade barriers and speed up major project approvals. The proposed law would allow provincial standards to replace federal ones to make it easier to sell Canadian goods across provinces. The Cancer Society fears this could lower national health protections, as some provinces have weaker rules. They warn that harmful products banned under federal law, like those containing asbestos, could return to the market. The Cancer Society is urging the government to change the bill to protect health and environmental standards. Meanwhile, the Bloc Québécois, NDP, and Green Party accuse the Carney government of rushing the bill through Parliament without enough time for review.
