With thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts expected to roll into Norfolk County for the iconic Friday the 13th (PD13) rally, the Ontario Provincial Police is issuing a public reminder about key safety measures, road regulations, and security expectations for the high-profile event.
The long-running PD13 celebration, now in its 44th year, draws large crowds from across North America and with it expected to be a nice and sunny day – it could be big.
That was Constable Andrew Gamble.
To help manage the crowds and keep traffic flowing, an increased police presence will be visible throughout Port Dover.
Officers will be stationed at key intersections and patrol routes to promote road safety, address traffic concerns, and maintain a secure environment.
Road closures will be in place, and you are being asked to respect them.
Locals, and people coming in to work. will be allowed in.
Motorcyclists and other drivers are reminded to share the road, remain vigilant, and obey all posted signage.
While officers are on patrol, they will be keeping an eye open for something they noted during the previous Friday the 13th event in 2024.
Visitors should be especially aware of strict parking rules.
To protect public safety and emergency operations, Port Dover’s downtown core airspace will be temporarily closed for the duration of the event.
In accordance with Section 5.1 of the Aeronautics Act, airspace within a four-nautical-mile radius of downtown Port Dover and up to 2,000 feet above ground is off-limits to all private aircraft and drones.
Only authorized police, MedEvac, and rescue aircraft will be permitted during this time.
Operating a drone without Transport Canada approval inside the restricted airspace may result in legal consequences and disruption of emergency services.
The OPP has also confirmed that Outlaw Motorcycle Gang (OMG) members may be present at the event.
While their presence is not unexpected, attendees are reminded that displaying gang-related clothing or paraphernalia could pose a personal safety risk, particularly in the presence of rival groups.
