Filmmaker Daryl Granger, acclaimed for his popular documentary Netting The Waters, is back with an exciting new project titled Young Farmer.
This heartwarming documentary chronicles the inspiring journey of 7-year-old Roman Boyd, a proud seventh-generation farmer, as he embraces his family’s farming legacy outside Langton, Ontario.
Building on his success with Netting The Waters, Granger’s latest documentary Young Farmer offers an intimate, authentic glimpse into the life of a young child deeply connected to the land and agriculture.
Roman’s story highlights the passion, challenges, and rewards of farming from an early age.
Roman joined Daryl in studio, talking about why he loves gardening.
With gardening, comes a lot of care.
Roman has learned a lot over his seven years on the farm, and it’s more important now with his potential own money on the line – talking to us about pesky beetles.
Thankfully, being young, he isn’t moaning and growning like most adults having to duck down low to do these jobs.
Daryl said working with Roman has been a fun experience so far, as you never know exactly what he’s going to say or do next.
Young Farmer also shines a spotlight on Roman’s siblings, 14-year-old Connor and 12-year-old Lauren, who each contribute to the family farm in their own ways.
Connor is looking to save money because he is looking at getting cows, and moving in that direction.
Lauren is an avid horse lover, and wants to look at getting herself her own horse one day.
Roman has one goal – a dirtbike.
While a lot of filming has already been done, there is still a lot of work to do.
Stay tuned for updates on Young Farmer’s release date and upcoming screenings.
