Norfolk County is once again revving up for one of the region’s biggest events of the year: the legendary Friday the 13th (PD13) motorcycle rally, set to take place this week.
Now in its 44th year, the iconic gathering is expected to bring thousands of motorcyclists and visitors to the lakeside town of Port Dover for a day full of camaraderie, chrome, and community celebration.
Hosted by the Kinsmen Club of Port Dover and the Port Dover Board of Trade, the event has grown into a staple for motorcycle enthusiasts from across Canada and the United States, turning Port Dover into a vibrant, engine-roaring hub every time the 13th lands on a Friday.
New Motorcycle-Only Routes to Improve Traffic Flow
To support this high-volume event, Norfolk County has implemented enhanced traffic control measures for June’s rally, aimed at improving safety and efficiency for both attendees and emergency responders.
St. George Street, Walker Street, and St. Andrew Street will be designated motorcycle-only routes, meaning passenger vehicles will be prohibited from entering these areas during the event. Only motorcycles and authorized vehicles will have access.
As in previous years, a one-way traffic loop will be enforced throughout Port Dover, with support from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) to ensure smooth vehicle flow and crowd safety.
Street Closures and Parking Restrictions
Event-related road closures will begin at 12 p.m. on Thursday, June 12, and remain in place until 4 a.m. on Saturday, June 14. Major street closures include:
-
Main Street (from Nelson to Walker)
-
Chapman Street East & West
-
Market Street West
-
Nelson Street East
-
Greenock Street West
-
Richardson Drive
-
Main Street (Clifford to Nelson) – Friday only
In addition, “No Parking – Tow Away Zones” will be clearly marked and strictly enforced. Any unauthorized vehicles parked in restricted zones will be towed at the owner’s expense.
Safety and Courtesy Are Key
Norfolk County urges all attendees to plan ahead and prioritize safety. Recommended tips include:
-
Reviewing the event map and planning your route in advance
-
Using designated motorcycle parking to keep emergency routes clear
-
Being respectful to local residents and fellow visitors
-
Following all posted traffic and safety regulations
-
Avoiding impaired riding
To support the large crowd, shuttle buses, portable washrooms, and a wide selection of food and merchandise vendors will be stationed throughout the town. Visitors are also encouraged to explore Norfolk County’s scenic roads, unique shops, and local restaurants while in the area.
