Norfolk General Hospital (NGH), West Haldimand General Hospital (WHGH), Holmes House, and Norfolk Hospital Nursing Home (NHNH) have been awarded Accreditation with Commendation by Accreditation Canada, recognizing top-quality care and safety in rural health services.
This marks the first time the four organizations completed a joint accreditation survey, showcasing a historic collaboration and shared dedication to improving health care in Haldimand-Norfolk.
The award highlights their outstanding work in patient safety, ethics, inclusion, and governance. Together, the sites achieved 98% compliance with national safety standards known as Required Organizational Practices.
Key strengths noted in the report include compassionate and knowledgeable care teams, strong infection prevention measures, and a clear commitment to diversity and inclusion. Initiatives such as 24-hour security, Indigenous reconciliation planning, and patient advisory committees were all recognized as best practices.
Earlier this year, NGH and WHGH launched a new mission to deliver high-quality, integrated rural health care. This accreditation confirms that vision is already taking shape.
“This award reflects the strength of our teams and the trust of our communities,” said Todd Stepanuik, CEO of NGH, WHGH, and NHNH.
Ken Robb, Chair of the NHNH Board, added, “Our staff bring care and compassion every day. This recognition belongs to them.”
Accreditation with Commendation is given to organizations that exceed national standards and show a deep commitment to ongoing improvement.
This milestone confirms that exceptional, person-centered care is thriving close to home in Haldimand and Norfolk.
