Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health has confirmed the tragic death of a premature infant infected with measles.
The infant contracted the virus in utero from an unvaccinated mother and faced additional unrelated medical complications.
The province is in the midst of a major outbreak tied to cases originating in New Brunswick, with over 2,000 infections reported since October.
Health officials are urging all Ontarians—especially those who are pregnant or planning to be—to ensure their MMR vaccinations are up to date.
