The Canadian Steel Producers Association (CSPA) is calling on the federal government to swiftly retaliate against the U.S. decision to double tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum imports to 50%.
CSPA President Catherine Cobden stated that the increased tariffs are delivering a crushing blow to the Canadian steel industry, leading to layoffs and reduced investments.
Prime Minister Mark Carney acknowledged the situation, indicating that the government is taking time to craft an appropriate response while engaging in intensive trade discussions with the U.S.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford has also advocated for matching the U.S. tariffs to protect domestic jobs and industries
