Haldimand County Mayor Shelley Ann Bentley has issued a public statement following the conclusion of a joint investigation into a confidentiality breach involving leaked correspondence between herself, Norfolk County Mayor Amy Martin, and other officials.
The investigation, initiated after the appearance of the emails on Facebook, determined that the documents were printed by someone within Haldimand County, thereby clearing Norfolk staff of any wrongdoing.
Mayor Bentley criticized the premise of the investigation, suggesting that the emails were not confidential and that the efforts to suppress them were politically motivated.
She emphasized her commitment to transparency and questioned the necessity of the investigation, which incurred significant costs and consumed considerable staff time.
