Theatre Tillsonburg is wrapping up its 2024-2025 season with a final must-see production, Habit of Murder, a witty Canadian mystery opening May 29. As the curtains prepare to close for the summer, the theatre community is celebrating a standout season filled with laughter, connection, and critical acclaim.
Joe Sheik director of Habit of Murder says the team at Theatre Tillsonburg is like a family.
This year’s lineup included crowd favourites Steel Magnolias and Opening Night, each showcasing the kind of heartfelt, high-quality storytelling that Theatre Tillsonburg has become known for. The season highlight came with Steel Magnolias, which earned four Western Ontario Drama League (WODL) nominations and brought home a win.
Among the honours were nominations for Pete Matthews (Outstanding Cameo), Jessica O’Connor (Outstanding Major Role), Nikki Wiltac (Outstanding Supporting Role), and the entire cast (Outstanding Ensemble). Nikki Wiltac went on to win the prestigious Repuski Award for her emotional and powerful performance as Annelle Dupuy.
The theatre is looking to grow it’s audience. Sheik promises for those interested, but outside of Tillsonburg – it’s closer than you think.
Sheik added how picturesque Potter’s Road is and that Theatre Tillsonburg may be small, but it offers a warm, intimate experience.
Beyond the stage, Theatre Tillsonburg is powered by volunteers, supported by donors, and fuelled by the love of live performance. As a registered not-for-profit, the theatre reinvests every ticket sale, every dollar, and every hour of volunteer time into enriching the arts in its rural community.
Those who haven’t yet experienced the charm of this “big little theatre” are encouraged to catch Habit of Murder before the final curtain drops. Whether you’re a longtime fan or a newcomer, now’s the perfect time to discover what makes Theatre Tillsonburg so special.
And with next season already on the horizon—starting in November 2025 with Ken Ludwig’s Twas the Night Before Christmas—the future looks bright, entertaining, and deeply community-driven.
