The House of Commons is back in session after a months-long break, with the spotlight on Prime Minister Mark Carney’s first sitting.
Leslyn Lewis, MP for Haldimand-Norfolk, shared a statement with NorfolkToday.ca expressing gratitude for voters’ continued trust.
She pledged to hold the government accountable and advocate for her riding.
Lewis also called for a more respectful, cooperative tone in this new Parliament.
Tomorrow (27th) the Speech from the Throne will be delivered by the King himself outlining the first priorities of the government, officially beginning the parliamentary session.
Parliament has not sat since December.
Lewis’ full statement can be found here:
I’m incredibly grateful to the people of Haldimand-Norfolk for placing their trust in me once again to be their voice in Parliament – it’s an honour I take very seriously. I look forward to representing and defending the interests of our community in Ottawa each day and holding this government to account for its actions.
As a new Parliament begins, I sincerely hope we can move toward a more constructive, collaborative and respectful tone. The previous Parliament under Prime Minister Trudeau was frequently divisive and dysfunctional. I am hopeful this new Parliament will mark a return to civility and mutual respect, as is befitting our parliamentary institutions.
