What a day on the pitch at McLaughlin Fields, as the AABHN varsity soccer finals delivered non-stop excitement!
In the Varsity Girls’ showdown, the Holy Trinity Titans brought the holy fire, stomping the Cayuga Warriors 5–1. The division had been tighter than a drum all season, with Simcoe and Waterford leading the pack. But Cayuga, the fifth seed, played a true Cinderella story—upsetting Simcoe in the semis before their glass cleats finally cracked in the final.
Then came the boys. Waterford, Simcoe, and Holy Trinity all finished the regular season at 6–1—a three-way dogfight! In the end, it was the Sabres vs. Titans for all the marbles, and Simcoe carved out a nail-biting 4–3 victory in a shootout. Sabres’ goalie Campbell Shrubsole came up huge with two clutch saves to seal the win.
Hats off to every squad—this year’s Haldimand-Norfolk varsity soccer season was a barnburner from start to finish. High fives, yellow cards, and memories for days!
