Norfolk County’s Integrity Commissioner has submitted a report detailing his work and expenses during his first year on the job, with the total cost billed to the county amounting to $49,894.80 plus HST.
In the report, the commissioner outlined an extensive investigation into seven complaints involving the Simcoe Business Improvement Area (BIA), including three complaints against a councillor and four against two members of the BIA’s executive.
While the complaints against the councillor were dismissed, the BIA executive members were found to have acted improperly.
Both later resigned, and misused funds were repaid to the BIA.
The commissioner also reviewed a separate complaint from a member of the public against a councillor and council as a whole.
That complaint and a request to re-open it were both dismissed.
Additionally, the commissioner provided ethics advice to four councillors—three regarding potential financial conflicts of interest and one concerning gifts and event participation under the municipal Code of Conduct.
