Tillsonburg’s Broadway Cinemas is preparing to close its doors for good.
It’s final screening scheduled for May 15th, marking the end of nearly three decades of independent cinema in the heart of the community.
The announcement was made on on social media in a public statement issued by the management of Broadway Cinemas.
The team expressed heartfelt gratitude to the people of Tillsonburg for their longstanding support, noting that the community has been a vital part of the cinema’s journey since it first opened.
Broadway Cinemas has been a key cultural hub for film lovers in Tillsonburg and surrounding areas, offering a local alternative to larger commercial theatres.
The cinema’s management underscored the importance of independent film in Canada and encouraged moviegoers to continue supporting other independent theatres wherever possible.
While the curtain is closing on regular screenings, the venue won’t be entirely quiet just yet.
In the coming months, some of the theatre’s equipment will be made available for sale, offering collectors, film enthusiasts, and other theatres an opportunity to purchase pieces of local cinema history.
