Damien Kurek, the MP-elect for Battle River—Crowfoot in Alberta, says he plans to resign his seat. He made the announcement earlier today (May 2, 2025).
Kurek’s decision will make room for Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre to run in a by-election in the riding.
The riding of Battle River-Crowfoot is in east-central Alberta, between Red Deer and the Saskatchewan Border.
Kurek said he is stepping aside to support the party and help its leader get a seat in Parliament. The move sets up a future vote in Battle River—Crowfoot, where voters will decide if Poilievre will become their new MP.
More details about the by-election are expected soon.
