Justice has been served in the tragic death of Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Constable Greg Pierzchala.
Two individuals, Randall McKenzie and Brandi Stewart-Sperry, have been found guilty of first-degree murder by a jury in connection with Pierzchala’s death.
The verdict was delivered Thursday evening, around 9:00 p.m., following approximately six-and-a-half hours of jury deliberation.
Constable Pierzchala, just 28 years old at the time, was fatally shot on December 27, 2022, while responding to what appeared to be a routine call regarding a vehicle in a ditch on Indian Line near Hagersville.
Both McKenzie and Stewart-Sperry pleaded not guilty to the charges, but the jury ultimately found them responsible for Pierzchala’s death.
OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique, alongside the Pierzchala family, issued a joint statement following the verdict:
“The conclusion of this trial has weighed heavily on all of us. This verdict is an important step as we focus on moving forward with continuing the important work Greg started and contributing to the everlasting impact he had on so many people, personally and professionally. We remain united in our advocacy for bail reform and maintain our absolute, unwavering support for officers who risk their lives daily.”
Constable Pierzchala’s death deeply affected the OPP community and the broader public.
He was remembered as a dedicated and promising officer with a bright future ahead.
