With the Easter long weekend coming up, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is sharing tips to help travellers avoid delays at the border.
The CBSA expects heavy traffic and encourages people to plan ahead. Early morning is the best time to cross, and Monday is usually the busiest day. Travellers are also urged to check border wait times, use alternative ports of entry, and double-check hours of operation.
To speed up processing, have your travel documents ready and declare all items, including gifts and goods purchased abroad. Canadian residents should know their personal exemptions, especially when it comes to alcohol, tobacco, or goods that may face extra surtaxes. Visitors bringing Easter gifts should keep them unwrapped.
If you’re flying, you can use Advance Declaration up to 72 hours before arriving at select airports. Families travelling with children who aren’t theirs should carry a consent letter.
The CBSA reminds everyone: know what you can bring, and when in doubt—just ask.
