The Brant County Health Unit (BCHU) and Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit (HNHU) are merging to form Grand Erie Public Health, effective January 1, 2025. The Ministry of Health approved the merger after reviewing a joint business proposal from the two organizations.
The new health unit will serve the County of Brant, City of Brantford, Haldimand County, and Norfolk County. Programs and services will continue at current locations during 2025 as the transition is completed.
This initiative began after the Ministry offered funding in August 2023 to support local health unit mergers. Leaders say combining resources will strengthen public health services, improve capacity, and foster partnerships with schools and community providers.
Susan Brown, Board Chair of BCHU, and Mayor Amy Martin, Board Chair of HNHU, praised the merger as a step toward a healthier future, ensuring local services remain strong and effective.
