Three big community partners have come together with one goal—to ensure pregnant people in the area have access to the best information available as they navigate this sometimes scary and complicated journey.
That was Amanda Kocheff, Registered Midwife and Lactation Consultant at the Norfolk Family Health Team.
She was joined by Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit’s Dietitian, Laura Goyette, and Juanita Peters, a Registered Midwife with the Maternal Newborn Clinic at Norfolk General Hospital.
They decided on a comprehensive 5-week course for expecting parents.
They have already launched the first series, with the initial course held this past Monday to a full house.
The three share insights into what pregnant individuals can expect.
From the hospital standpoint, they are also planning tours of the hospital with families, so those expecting can see where they will be giving birth and where they’ll be staying.
Peters said a program like this is an incredible asset to the community, especially considering that only a few years ago, no babies were being born at NGH.
She also noted that it should be a point of pride that NGH is one of the only, if not the only, hospital in Ontario that had to close its Labour and Delivery Unit but managed to reopen it because they understood the value it held for the area.
Sessions for the current 5-week program are underway, but for those listening who may be pregnant—it’s not a one-and-done situation.
These in-depth 5-week courses are completely free.
