The Dover Cheese Shop, founded in 2013, has become a local favorite in Port Dover. Its owner, Jenny Ball, is a passionate cheese lover with a marketing background, who grew up in North Carolina. She transformed her career after a bit of random encouragement from Bernie, the previous shop owner of Say Cheese.
So, on September 22, 2013, Ball opened the shop, which has since moved to a new location across the street and thrived for 11 years.
Running a small business comes with challenges, including time constraints and the need to communicate the value of supporting local businesses. Staying competitive with pricing for a small business can be tricky. Ball understands that you might pay a little more than the big brand grocery store at her shop, but there are benefits that come with that for the customer.
The shop actively supports community initiatives and sponsorships. As a result Ball and her staff cherish the close relationships formed with customers, many of whom feel like family.
Ball values her team, recognizing that success is a collective effort. With long-term employee Stacy by her side, she strives to provide competitive wages and benefits while fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.
The Dover Cheese Shop enjoys introducing customers to new cheeses and seeing their appreciation grow over time. Ball invites you to drop in anytime, try a sample and meet the team. You can also check them out online at The Dover Cheese Shop.
