It was an action-packed week in high school football, featuring Simcoe’s cross-town rivalry and Delhi’s Friday Night Lights game.
The Simcoe Sabres went head-to-head with the Holy Trinity Titans. Sabres head coach Marc Bertrand, was full of optimism before the game.
Tempers flared early and the head referee warned both benches in the first quarter to keep their player’s trash talk down. Coach Bertand’s optimism was proven right as his team took the win, 18-6. With this victory, the Sabres remain undefeated, sitting at 3-0.
Approximately 1,500 fans showed up in Delhi for their Friday Night Light’s game. It was an amazing community event that showcased the community and its athletes. The evening kicked off with a presentation of provincial scrolls of athletic achievement from MPP Bobbi Ann Brady to Carson McKie, Chris Kotele, Ethan Binkley, Leo Reddecopp and Andrew Fekete.


Followed by Dave Leatherland being acknowledged for 25 years of coaching.

At halftime there was a commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of the Battle of the Scheldt. The battle took place in October and November of 1944 in Belgium where more than 6,000 Canadian soldiers were killed, wounded or missing.

The Raiders would go on to extended their winning streak, defeating the visiting Waterford Wolves 40-15. The Raiders also boast a perfect 3-0 record.
The stage is now set for an epic showdown as the unbeaten Sabres and Raiders will clash on October 11th in Delhi, for the Mud Jug Game, with both teams fighting to keep their streaks alive.
Elsewhere in the division, the McKinnon Park Blue Devils edged out the Pauline Johnson Thunderbirds in a thrilling 31-28 game.
Week 3 left fans on the edge of their seats, and next week promises even more excitement as these powerhouse teams battle for division dominance.
