In November of 2021, the provincial government approved the transition of the blue box program to a producer responsibility model for all Ontario municipalities.
Under this new system, companies that produce recyclable materials are required to pay fees to cover all of the costs for the collection and processing of these items.
As a result, Norfolk County has now transitioned to the producer responsibility model.
The two-box system will remain in effect and all materials previously collected in the recycling program will continue to be picked up curbside.
