It was a packed house at the Vittoria Community Centre Wednesday as the public came in to talk about the future of the Port Dover and Port Rowan Marinas.
Council had received a staff report on the matter earlier this month with a recommendation of selling the two marinas, you can read more about that in the link below:
UPDATE: Decision on selling the Port Dover and Port Rowan Harbour Marina pushed to October
People in attendance made it clear they didn’t want that to happen.
One of the residents we spoke to was not happy with the report staff presented, as he feel it downplayed the revenue the marinas make while minimizing how important they are to a community.
Another individual NorfolkToday spoke with was Warren Cummings.
Many will know the name as the man who served papers to the county and councillors and is in the process of taking them to court over concerns around urban boundary expansion, saying he is representing the residents of Norfolk.
He believes there is something happening “behind closed doors.”
As an update, the county has provided us with this information regarding the cost for the sewage as mentioned by Cummings.
“Wastewater infrastructure associated with the Port Dover Harbour Marina property is a combined/shared system with the Federal government. While the Federal government maintains the pumping station at the site, Norfolk County is responsible for maintaining infrastructure on its property. ”
We also had a chance to speak with members of the Port Dover Waterfront Conservation Society.
Council will once again discuss this issue at a future meeting looking at multiple different options.
