Like a fire that can start from a single spark, a whole lot of good in Simcoe came from a little idea.
Back in 2010, Nancy Carroll had a thought pass through her head at First Baptist Church about serving food to the community, and instead of letting it go, she decided to see if there was a way to make it happen.
That was Nancy speaking on Monday at First Baptist Church, as they served their 100,000th free meal to community.
It started in January of 2011 with the first meal served, and after Church Out Serving and Calvary and Evergreen Heights church joined in, it just kept getting bigger going from one meal a month to two free meals to the community a week.
Eric Haverkamp from Church Out Serving hosted the special event, and the work that goes behind the scenes.
But Haverkamp said the project has always been more than food, thanking those who come through those doors week after week sharing more than just a meal.
On top of it being the 100,000th meal, there were two other special things that took place to coincide with this milestone.
First, the meal being served was special.
And the milestone meal went to someone very deserving.
Donna Green was in the kitchen during that first day in 2011 making that first ever meal.
