Haldimand County will celebrate the life of Barbara Martindale tomorrow (Thursday, September 12th), by naming a laneway after her at the Edinburgh Square Heritage & Cultural Centre. The event will start at 5:00 pm, with a welcome and remarks at 5:30 pm. A storyboard and exhibit will also be presented in her memory.
Martindale was a well-known community advocate, historian, and author. She served as the Executive Director of the Caledonia & Regional Chamber of Commerce from 1996 until her passing in 2022. She was also known for her long-running column, “For What It’s Worth,” in the Caledonia Grand River Sachem newspaper.
Throughout her life, Martindale was deeply involved in local organizations and helped lead major projects, including the restoration of Caledonia’s town hall. Her contributions reached beyond Haldimand County, earning her several prestigious awards, such as the Queen’s Jubilee Medals in 2002 and 2012.
