Norfolk County has secured $16.5 million from Ontario’s Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund to address critical infrastructure needs and support future growth. This significant investment is the largest provincial transfer payment in the county’s history, reflecting successful collaboration with the province.
The funding will be used to upgrade the Port Dover Wastewater Treatment Plant, replacing outdated technology, increasing capacity, and preventing overflows into Lake Erie. Key improvements include advanced preliminary, biological, and disinfection treatment processes. These upgrades will ensure that water and wastewater systems can support new developments, avoiding future moratoriums.
The $16.5 million grant also eases the financial burden on Norfolk County ratepayers, supports economic growth, and enhances the quality of life for residents. This funding is part of a larger $1.9 billion provincial investment to enable municipalities to build infrastructure needed for 1.5 million new homes by 2031. Norfolk County looks forward to continued collaboration with the Province of Ontario.
