Haldimand Norfolk MPP Bobbi Ann Brady is expressing concerns about Ontario’s education system following the sudden resignation of Education Minister Todd Smith. Smith stepped down last week after just two months in the role, which he took on during a June 6 cabinet shuffle. With the school year set to begin in less than a month, Brady is urging the Doug Ford government to prioritize the needs of students, parents, and educators.
Brady is particularly worried about the instability, as Ontario now has its third education minister this summer. She speculates that Smith may have seen significant challenges ahead, leading to his abrupt departure. In a statement, Brady said, “Despite record funding, the education system is broken. I’m concerned it was so broken that Mr. Smith saw the truth and was tempted away.” Her comments reflect growing uncertainty as the new school year approaches.
