Gazebo in Lynnwood Park
A few years ago, Joy Allgood went to London, visited the Globe theatre and got inspired. She knew then that she wanted to bring Shakespeare to town and wanted to make it accessible for families.
She accomplished that last year with the inaugural Shakespeare in the Gazebo. Now Allgood returns with the 2nd annual show. This year’s show is a mixture of an original modern script by Ryan Sero of Make Art Theatre and traditional Shakespeare. Allgood explains the outcome of this combination.
In addition to being a very unique kind of Shakespeare, the performance takes place in a unique setting as well.
The show runs in conjunction with the Simcoe Heritage Friendship Festival. The first show is on Friday night at 6 p.m. as part of the BIA’s opening party. Then on Saturday there are two more shows at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Allgood explained there is hillside seating, and the shows are pay-what-it’s-worth.
Allgood gave praise and thanked all this year’s sponsors: Simcoe Lions Club, Rotary Norfolk Sunrise, Millards, Joy Bakery, Firefly & Fox and 98.9 myFM.
