It’s the 6th Annual DogsNest Day this Sunday, put on by the DogsNest 1851 committee. The hamlet was established in 1851 and was a stop over between Hamilton and Port Dover for travelers. There is a long history of the Dogs Nest sign going missing in the 80s, until the MTO refused to replace it. Now the hamlet is marked by the “DogsNest Rock”.
We spoke to David Oliver the President of the committee about what people can expect to see at this years celebration.
In addition to the celtic rockers, MP Leslyn Lewis, MPP Bobbi Ann Brady and Norfolk Mayor Amy Martin will be in attendance. The OPP, Norfolk Fire and Norfolk Paramedics will also be in attendance. The 56th Field Artillery Regiment are even bringing a howitzer! Oliver told us the day will open with a mini-parade.
The event will take place at Misner Towing, on Highway 6 at Concession 2 Woodhouse Road. Oliver stressed this is a family friendly event, there is no alcohol and they’re hoping to help a few charities out too.
Everyone is invited and welcome to attend, things begin at noon hour and the parade will be at 12:30 pm this Sunday, July 21st. For more details you can visit the Dogs Nest Facebook page at @dogsnest1851.
