The Hounds of Erie winery brought home the gold in this years Ontario Cold Climate Wine Awards (CCWA).
The CCWA are intended to celebrate, showcase and promote wines made from 100% cold climate grapes grown in Canada, and it is the only competition that is dedicated to 100% cold climate grapes with no blending of warm or cool climate grapes.
We spoke to Mat Vaughan Owner and Wine Maker about the event and his winery’s top place wins.
Top prizes were also awarded to the winery’s 2022 Frontenac Blanc and 2022 Petite Louise as well as for the winery’s 2019 Fox and the Hound Reserve and 2020 Fox and the Hound Reserve red wine. Vaughn told us about the growth the winery has seen, and what’s ahead.
A fun fact, the Hounds of Erie winery is the only winery in the world growing and making the Petite Louise white wine as it was created through and evolutionary change in their vineyard!
