Save our ReStore.
That’s a message coming from our local store in Simcoe after they received the news that their affiliate will not renew their lease at their current location.
The hope is to find a new home to prove to their Board of Directors that Norfolk County cannot afford to lose the ReStore.
We have an interview with Store management on Friday and will provide you with updates.
Below is the post that was made online:
Dear Norfolk County,
Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario (previously Brant-Norfolk) has hosted a ReStore here for the past 7+ years. We’ve tried to serve our community the best way we can, whether it’s working with providing individuals what they need one-on-one or providing solutions beyond the landfill for your quality donations by redirecting to other organizations and groups in our community to help strengthen Norfolk. We’ve worked with everyone from Church Out Serving, Indwell, ABEL Enterprises, the Who Did It Club, Haldimand-Norfolk Women’s Services, NACL, etc. Our store has never been the charity that says “only support us” because we understand that it takes a village to build a better future. And we want to remain as a pillar for this village of Norfolk.
We’ve recently received some upsetting news: our affiliate has made the decision to not renew the lease at our current location. To be frank, the operational costs are astronomical at our current location, but the staff and volunteers here not only believe in our mission of building affordable homes, but also how much Norfolk cares about building the best future.
We just want to find a new home for our store to prove to our Board of Directors that Norfolk County cannot afford to lose the ReStore. We lost our Salvation Army Thrift Store. We don’t have Goodwill, or St Vincent de Paul operating stores here. We’re the last remaining registered charity operating a thrift store in Norfolk County.
We’re asking for help from everyone in our county. Save our ReStore. Don’t pull this valuable resource from our community and help us find a new location that is affordable for our store. If there are landlords with commercial properties they need to fill, please work with us. If you love what we provide to our community please write letters that we can take to our board. We don’t want to leave, we don’t want to lose our jobs, and we don’t want to lose our volunteers.
