All eyes are on whether Liberals will hold a Toronto seat they’ve held for the last 10 elections.
Residents in Toronto-St Paul’s are heading to the polls today to vote for their new member of parliament as observers watch to see if the riding remains a Liberal stronghold.
The byelection was triggered after the resignation of former Liberal M-P Carolyn Bennett, who held the seat for more than 25 years and was recently appointed ambassador to Denmark.
Former political staffer Leslie Church is running for the Liberals, and her primary opponent is Conservative candidate Don Stewart, a financial and marketing specialist.
The race appears to be tighter than expected for a Liberal stronghold as the Conservatives maintain a double-digit lead over the Liberals in national polls.
Polls will close at 8:30 p.m. tonight.
