A ground breaking change to baseball as we know it, on Wednesday (May 29th) MLB officially merged their books with the stats accrued by the Negro League – which operated from 1920 to 1948, as a segregated league.
Scott Crawford – Director of Operations at the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame, says that the move is groundbreaking.
As a result, 35 players that previously lived as legends, but were left out of the statistics, have been welcomed to the American Hall of Fame and upended long held records for batting averages, on base percentages and more.
The impact on Canadian baseball? We’ve gained a new baseball star.
Claxton was inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame on November 16, 2021 – the only Canadian player to have been recognized by this recent change.
Crawford says that while it will take some time to update the statistics and the impact on Canadian baseball is minimal for the time being, the change is welcome.
