Ontario Premier Doug Ford is facing backlash for his comments suggesting immigrants are to blame for a shooting at an empty Jewish school.
Speaking at an unrelated event yesterday, Ford said people shouldn’t come to Canada if they’re –quote– “going to start terrorizing neighbourhoods like this.”
Opposition parties were quick to denounce his comments and demand an apology.
The federal government’s special representative on combating Islamophobia, Amira Elghawaby, said people should condemn antisemitism without fuelling hate against other groups.
Ford later said on social media that those who want to call Ontario home would “always be welcome.”
