You may notice an influx of great looking cars coming into Port Dover for the next several weeks – specifically on Monday nights.
That’s because the Port Dover Lion’s Show and Shine returns, getting bigger and better each year.
We spoke with Lion John Vorstadt about how all of this got started.
But the Lions are a supportive bunch and got behind the project, and saw the community and surrounding area was interested.
Last year, they saw some record numbers with some nights seeing over 300 cars showing up.
To get Silver Lake park ready every Monday is no easy feat either, but something the Lions rally together to get done – noting that just getting the field ready for the first show this year was a tricky task itself due to constant rain delays.
One of the reasons why this event is so popular, and sees people bringing in their vintage cars from all across the province, is because they aren’t interested in constantly asking those drivers to pay up.
He said that he hears all the time that people make the drive to Port Dover because they love the venue and the community.
These Show and Shines do take a lot of work, and while there is no cover charge, they do make money.
Through serving food and 50/50 they use that big influx of visitors to help out locally.
He noted that the community has really gotten behind the event.
A lot of people will walk down every Monday to check out the cars, enter the 50/50, and enjoy the evening.
Local businesses constantly step up too, offering up items as door prizes each week.
The Show and Shine is running every Monday now until September, weather permitting.
This past Monday already saw one event sadly cancelled due to the influx of heavy rain.
