Oxford OPP are reporting a new scam they want the public to be aware of.
The say a resident of Tillsonburg received a call from someone saying they were from “Readers Digest Sweepstakes” and that the resident won the $5 million-dollar grand prize, $250,000 cash, and a 2024 Pickup truck.
The caller asked the victim to purchase a prepaid MasterCard to cover the tax before receiving the prize, but when the victim questioned the legitimacy of the operation, the caller emailed documents to try and support the scam.
The victim lost approximately $900.
