
Council-in-Committee received a report from BDO Canada yesterday, regarding Employee Attraction and Retention. BDO began collecting data as well as polling and interviewing staff in August of 2023. The report contained a 5 year Talent Management Strategy for the County to follow.
The reason for the report is that the costs of turnover and training for the County is very high. This is costly not only in resources, but also in time. The County has seen many employees leaving to work in other municipalities in similar positions.
The BDO five year strategy, has 25 recommendations to establish a people first culture in the workplace and to create a space that can be more innovative through the sharing of ideas.
Among the recommendations, is the recruitment of a human resources (HR) full time staff member, that will implement and maintain BDO’s strategy. Another of the recommendations was to increase the pay bands for employees, through a pay for performance program.
