A scammer caught in Norfolk.
On Tuesday of last week, a Norfolk resident received a phone call from someone claiming to be a Government of Ontario employee stating the resident had to pay $25,000 or face imprisonment.
They were then instructed to bring the money to a specific individual at a local business – where the money was handed over.
After the first payment, the victim was contacted by the same individual, who insisted that an additional $20,000 had to be paid to avoid imprisonment.
On Thursday, police showed up and arrested the Scarborough man at an address on Lakeshore Road in St. Williams
25-year-old Aadhar Patel of Scarborough was charged with fraud over $5,000.
