Making an impact on Earth Day, or any day, can seem daunting, but seemingly small actions can make a big difference.
Did you know that your household likely has close to a hundred batteries in it right now?
That was Call2Recyle’s VP Marketing and Communications Jon McQuaid who says recycling batteries can not only be used to make new pots and pans and so many other things, but keeping them out of landfills keeps toxic materials from adversely effecting our environment.
Call2Recycle is a not-for-profit organization that has over 10,000 household battery drop-off locations across Canada. You’ll find them at pharmacies, hardware stores and at county recycling centres.
In the last 27 years, Call2Recycle has helped divert over 45 million kilograms of batteries collected and recycled.
McQuade told us how important recycling your batteries is for the environment
According to McQuaid, starting the habit of recycling early is something they’ve been working on with organizations like Earth Rangers. Together, they visit schools and encourage children to collect batteries to prevent them from going to a landfill.
So have a look around your house today with your kids, collect those depleted batteries and drop them off for recycling.
