Gordon Malo, the Technical Director of Simcoe Minor Hockey, gave a deputation in strong support of Councillor Alan Duthie’s motion to have county staff look into bringing ice back to the Rec Centre.
Malo explained that Norfolk does not have substantial ice to meet the recreational needs of the community. Sadly less ice programming has been created and in a number of cases Minor Hockey has had to rent ice outside the county to meet the demand.
During his deputation Malo had two points that he wanted to be very clear on.
Malo’s second point was that Duthie’s motion was reasonable, but also added the county’s options if they didn’t support the motion.
The community’s support seems to be in favour of returning the ice to the Rec Centre. Malo picked up on that and referenced a recent survey the county had.
Councillor Duthie’s motion to have staff investigate the feasibility of having ice return to the Rec Centre and to meet with its current stake holder groups was successful and will move forward.
